New Delhi, Nov 10, 2025 (Breking Times) – A devastating car explosion near Gate No. 1 of Lal Quila Metro Station in Old Delhi’s Chandni Chowk killed 10 people and injured 24 others on Monday evening, plunging the national capital into shock. The blast, which occurred at 6:52 PM IST, targeted a white Hyundai i20 with a Haryana registration (HR-26A series) and damaged three nearby vehicles in the crowded tourist area opposite the iconic Red Fort.

Eyewitnesses described a terrifying scene. “There was a massive bang, like a bomb. Flames shot up instantly, and people were running in panic,” said Rajdhar Pandey, a shopkeeper 50 meters from the site. “I saw charred bodies and debris everywhere—bikes toppled, windows shattered.” Another commuter added, “The fire spread so fast; emergency teams arrived within minutes, but the damage was already done.”

Delhi Fire Services deployed seven fire tenders, extinguishing the blaze after an hour-long battle. Ambulances ferried the injured to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital, where medical teams worked under pressure. “Eight patients are critical with severe burns and shrapnel injuries,” said Dr. Manish Kumar Jha. “We urgently need O-negative blood.” Among the deceased were a young mother and her child, as per initial identifications.

Latest Updates (10:44 PM IST):

  • Death Toll: 10 confirmed, including pedestrians and commuters.
  • Injuries: 24 hospitalized; 8 in ICU.
  • Investigation: Delhi Police Special Cell, NIA, and NSG are leading the probe. Forensic experts recovered explosive residue and a bullet casing.
  • Key Arrest: Car owner Salman, traced to Faridabad, detained for questioning. No confirmed terror link yet.
  • Official Statements: Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the site and LNJP Hospital, stating, “Every angle—accident, sabotage, or terror—is under scrutiny. Forensic reports will clarify soon.” PM Narendra Modi expressed grief: “Deeply pained by the loss. Full support to victims’ families.”

CCTV footage captured the i20 slowing at a traffic signal before the explosion. Authorities have ruled out any connection to a recent Haryana explosives seizure involving 360 kg of material. However, the incident has triggered a nationwide security response. Delhi remains on maximum alert, with intensified checks at metro stations, airports, and key landmarks. High alerts were issued in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra (Mumbai), West Bengal (Kolkata), and Uttarakhand. Mumbai Police ordered nakabandi and random frisking at entry points.

Chandni Chowk traders announced a full market shutdown on Tuesday as a mark of respect. Local residents have started relief drives for affected families. Mental health helplines are being activated for traumatized witnesses.

Delhi Police urged the public to avoid speculation and report suspicious activity via helpline 100. “This is a sensitive investigation. Misinformation can hinder justice,” said Commissioner Satish Golcha.

As the nation mourns, the Red Fort—symbol of India’s resilience—stands witness to yet another tragedy. Updates will follow as forensic results emerge.
